Newborn Session FAQ
Where will the session take place?
We come to you! This session will take place in your home, where you and baby are most comfortable! We remember how much we loved our newborn session at home, not having to lug all of our stuff to someone's studio.
Ensuring your baby's safety and comfort is our top priority. Your home provides a controlled and secure environment where you have everything you need to keep your baby content - familiar blankets, outfits, feeding supplies.
We typically use the main living space, nursery, and/or master bedroom.
When should we book our newborn session?
We recommend booking your newborn session early during your pregnancy, ideally the 2nd trimester or early in the 3rd trimester. Since newborns arrive on their own schedule, we offer as much flexibility as possible.
The best time to capture those adorable sleepy babes is during the first two weeks. During this time babies tend to be more settled, sleepier, and more cooperative.
What should baby wear?
Comfort is key. Prioritize baby's comfort over all else. Opt for soft, breathable fabrics that won't irritate the skin.
Neutral colors such as creams, whites, grays, ands oft pastels are a great starting point. They complement most home decors and create a timeless aesthetic. Consider the colors in your home when selecting outfits as they can harmonize with your living space when displaying photos!
What props do you have?
I do not provide specific props for newborn sessions. Instead, I encourage you to incorporate personal items that hold sentimental value or reflect your family's style and interests. This can include items such as heirlooms, blankets, toys, or any other meaningful objects that you would like to include in the photographs.
I believe that the most meaningful and beautiful props for newborn photography sessions are the natural elements of your own home and the bonds within your family.
Can siblings and parents be included in the newborn session?
Absolutely! We love capturing the beautiful interactions and connections between the new baby and the entire family. Our newborn sessions are in-home lifestyle sessions that prioritize capturing natural and genuine moments of love, joy, and bonding within your family.
Sessions involve minimal posing, allowing your family to naturally interact and engage with the new baby. We may offer gentle guidance and suggestions to enhance the composition and lighting, but the emphasis is on creating an authentic representation of your family's connection.
How do you ensure the safety and comfort of our newborn during the session?
As a photographer and a father of two, I understand the importance of prioritizing the safety and comfort of your precious newborn during the photography session. When conducting newborn sessions in the comfort of your own home, I take several measures to ensure a secure and pleasant experience for your baby.
Conducting the session in your home provides a familiar and comfortable environment for your baby. I will work with the available space and natural lighting in your home to create a cozy and relaxed atmosphere, ensuring your baby feels secure and at ease throughout the session. Having the session in-home also ensures that all of the things baby needs are there - clothing, blankets, feeding supplies, etc.
As a parent, you play a vital role in ensuring your baby's comfort and well-being. I encourage your active participation during the session, allowing you to soothe and comfort your baby as needed. Your presence provides a sense of security for your little one and allows for beautiful, candid moments to be captured.
I maintain strict hygiene practices before I arrive, and during the session. I also wash my hands and use hand sanitizers before handling your baby to prevent the spread of germs.
Newborns have their own schedules and needs, and I approach each session with patience and flexibility. I understand that babies may need feeding, changing, or comforting breaks. I allow ample time for these necessary pauses, ensuring your baby's comfort and well-being are never compromised.
What happens if our baby is fussy or doesn't cooperate during the session?
Babies are unpredictable, and it's completely normal for them to have fussy moments or be uncooperative during a photography session.
I embrace a baby-led approach with your baby's comfort and well being as a priority above all else. If your baby is not in the mood for certain poses or setups, I adjust the session accordingly.
Ample time is allocated for each session to account for any unforeseen circumstances, including fussiness or needing a break for feeding or soothing time.
How many photos will be included in the final gallery, and how long does it take to receive them?
On average, you can expect to receive a curated gallery of around 50-75 unique images from your newborn session.
Typically, you can expect to receive your final gallery within 2 to 3 weeks after the session.
